*People use maps as a way to help them travel from one place to another. *There are MANY types of maps, and each shows different information. *Cartography is the name given to the study and making of maps. *Maps usually have a compass rose that shows directions, north south, east and west. *A How to Use a Map Scale shows the distance between on place on the map and another. *Maps usually contain pictures or symbols to represent real things (roads, town, airports, etc.).
